Regeneration is the innate capacity of the living organisms to repair themselves by the beneficial use of their own resources. Preserving regeneration properties of the skin is a key strategy for aging well and in good health. With increasing age, however, the metabolism and functioning of cells diminish and their capacity to mutually interact deteriorates, weakening the regeneration process.

INTERCONNECTIVITY AT THE CORE OF CUTANEOUS REGENERATION

Continuing scientific discoveries over the years have shown the complex nature of the cutaneous regeneration mechanism. Regeneration had long been restricted to epidermal keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts, but is currently described as a dynamic and finely tuned process requiring the participation of several systems: cutaneous, vascular and immune. These three major biological pillars are mutually connected by the fibroblast that orchestrates steps of the process via the secretion of a pool of growth factors. This regenerating complex positively affects the activities of keratinocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial and immune cells for an optimal and overall regenerating effect.

A DEDICATED RESEARCH PROGRAM

Early on, SILAB investigated the involvement of the cutaneous system, in other words the role of keratinocytes and fibroblasts in the regeneration process. In 2017, the company began a Regeneration program in order to further its understanding of the biological mechanisms involved in cellular interconnectivity. The aim of this program was to characterize the participation of the cutaneous, immune and vascular systems in the regeneration process, as well as changes in the course of aging. Thanks to collaborations with renowned scientists, new cell and tissue models were developed to understand the complex nature of the interactions required for the regeneration process. This research program resulted in REGENIXIR®, an active ingredient that revitalizes the interactions between different systems by the endogenous production of the fibroblast regenerating complex. With the synthesis of this genuine growth elixir, REGENIXIR® reactivates the regeneration process weakened in the course of aging.
