Arnaud Nativel, doctoral student, is conducting his research at the Montpellier Cancer Research Institute (IRCM), INSERM U1194, under the supervision of Dr. Romain Larive. The topic of his dissertation is: “Hybrid artificial intelligence models for predicting response to treatments for advanced cutaneous melanoma” (PredictIAmel).
He summarized his topic: “MAPK inhibitors (MAPKi) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have revolutionized the treatment of advanced melanoma. However, the presence of primary or acquired resistance leads to variable efficacy. Patients with BRAFV600-mutated melanoma have a high response rate to MAPKis at the start of treatment, and those treated with ICIs have a more durable response. Treatment selection therefore requires a reliable prediction of the response and its duration. The goal of the project is to develop a hybrid artificial intelligence model that integrates machine learning and mechanistic modeling of cancer biological networks to predict a tumor’s therapeutic response based on its clinical and multiomic characteristics.”
